Course Description
This book and the accompanying CD are designed to help you prepare for the
BlackBerry® Certification Program exam, BCP-421. For more information about the
exam, visit www.blackberry.com/certification.
You should have approximately six months of experience administering and
maintaining a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server.
You should have some experience administering an IBM® Lotus® Domino®
environment with a focus on Lotus Domino, Domino Directory, and access control
lists. You should also have a basic understanding of Windows® permissions, IBM®
Lotus Notes®, Microsoft® SQL Server®, firewalls, proxy servers, and TCP/IP.
Hardware/Software Requirements
The following tools are required to complete exercises in this book.
Proceeding without these tools is not recommended.
- A computer with an optical drive and access to the Internet.
- A test environment with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 5.0
SP1 that includes the BlackBerry Administration Service, BlackBerry® Web
Desktop Manager, and the BlackBerry Monitoring Service. (You can download a
60-day trial version of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server from
www.blackberry.com.)
- A BlackBerry smartphone or BlackBerry Smartphone Simulator. (You can
download the BlackBerry Smartphone Simulator from www.blackberry.com.)
Performance-Based Objectives
- Describe the BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution architecture; BlackBerry
Domain; BlackBerry® Enterprise Server architecture; the functionality of the
BlackBerry Enterprise Server components; and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
process flows.
- Plan a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software installation; install and
upgrade the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.
- Navigate the BlackBerry® Administration Service; configure BlackBerry
smartphone user accounts using the BlackBerry Administration Service;
configure BlackBerry smartphones using the BlackBerry Administration Service;
and configure the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server components using the
BlackBerry Administration Service.
- Configure and assign IT policies; create and maintain application control
policies; create and maintain software configurations; configure the
Enterprise Service Policy; explain the use of S/MIME and PGP® encryption in
the BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution; and explain the use of IBM® Lotus Notes®
native encryption.
- Configure high availability for the BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution;
monitor the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server; and troubleshoot issues with the
BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry smartphones.
- Use the BlackBerry® Enterprise Transporter, BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
User Administration Tool, and the BlackBerry Analysis, Monitoring, and
Troubleshooting Tools.
