DoD 8570.1
The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) became law in 2002, which requires all federal agencies, including the Department of Defense (DoD), to become security compliant. The Defense-wide Information Assurance Program (DIAP) was formed to develop a program and document that would be the guideline for the Directive called DoD Directive 8570.1.
Released in 2006, the Directive specifies commercial certifications required for "privileged users" or jobs that pose an increased level of Information Assurance (IA) risk. The DoD 8570.01 Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program requires 100% of the workforce to be certified.
