Execs Predict Headcount to Rise

The following is an excerpt from the Chief Learning Officer magazine article “Execs Say Headcount Going Up,” based upon NFI Research surveys of 2,000 senior executives and managers globally:

  • More organizations expect to increase rather than decrease employee headcount in the next 12 months.
  • Twenty-six percent of senior executives and managers expect their overall number of employees to increase over the next 12 months.
  • Half believe that employment numbers will remain the same, according to a global survey of business leaders conducted by NFI Research.
  • "The good news is that more businesses see an increase rather than a decrease in overall headcount," said Chuck Martin, CEO of NFI Research and author of “Smarts: Are We Hardwired for Success?”
  • More senior executives and managers in large companies (10,000 or more employees) expect an increase in the number of employees than those in small businesses (500 or fewer employees).
  • Of those in large companies, 26 percent expect an increase in overall number of employees while 30 percent expect an overall decrease.
  • Twenty-three percent of those in small businesses also expect an increase compared to 22 percent who expect a decrease.
  • The increase in employees will be adding talent in areas such as sales and marketing in order to position ourselves for opportunities when the economy turns around," said one respondent.
